In the German Sandstone Park in the Otto-Gampper-Park on the Alsenz, large-format sandstone rocks from various mining areas throughout Germany and different geological ages are on display. The oldest stone in the exhibition was created in the Middle Devonian period (i.e. 375 to 390 million years ago), the youngest stone is from the Lower Cretaceous (i.e. 97 to 140 million years ago).
The park was inaugurated in 2005 and is operated and maintained by the Historical Association of the North Palatinate Alsenz with the support of the municipality of Alsenz and the Alsenz-Obermoschel association of municipalities. Since 2018, the landmark of the German Sandstone Park has been an oversized stone man (which I classified as an abstract cross...).
Once a year, a classic car meeting takes place in the German Sandstone Park under the motto "Stone meets Classic", which attracts national participants and visitors alike.
