          The Alhambra (Red House) is a medieval palace complex and fortress of the Moorish rulers of the Kingdom of Granada in Andalucia. It is located on a hilly plateau on the southeastern border of the city of Granada.
          The entire complex covers a huge area of 140,000 m².
          It consists of several buildings, gardens, squares, ponds, towers and paths.

            The Nasrid dynasty ruled the Alhambra from 1237 to 1492. The Alhambra had existed since 889, but the Nasrids converted the simple fortress into a royal palace. The mosaic and interior of the Nasrid palaces are particularly beautiful. The Nasrid Palaces are the pinnacle of the Alhambra. A group of up to 300 visitors is admitted every half hour. After half an hour one has to leave and the next group of visitors enters. If you have a ticket for the Alhambra, it also says at what time you can enter the Nasrid Palace. If you miss this time, you can just visit the Alhambra, but not the Nasrid palace. That would of course be a shame because the Nasrid palace is the most beautiful part of the Alhambra.

                The Naṣrid Palaces (Palacios Nazaries) with their gardens (e.g. el Partal) are the heart of the Alhambra. The seat of government and the private rooms of the Moorish rulers were located here.
