The 'tunnel' is called the Erleloch. It is lined with bricks and connects the Erletal with the Riedbachtal. The Erleloch is always exciting for children because it is curved so that you cannot see any light at the other exit. (In the past, the Erleloch served as a better drinking water supply for the city of Endingen).

“A dark, mysterious passage leads from the Erletal through the Brüstleberg to the southeast.

The city of Endingen has always had problems supplying the population with drinking water. In 1788, when the springs in the Erletal were no longer sufficient, a canal was dug through the mountain. Thus the springs in the parallel Riedbachtal could also be used.

The almost man-high tunnel was lined with stones. Entrance and exit were bricked in red sandstone.

The Erleloch, near the protected area and before the ascent to the Katharinenberg, is a 100 meter long tunnel and former drinking water canal and leads from the Erletal east through the Brüstleberg into the parallel Riedbachtal.
