Rothenburg ob der Tauber is world-famous for its historic old town, which is so well and completely preserved that you can really experience the Middle Ages there.

The market square of Rothenburg forms the heart of the city. From here you can admire the impressive facades of the surrounding houses. In winter, one of the most famous and oldest Christmas markets in Germany takes place here and in the surrounding streets, the Rothenburger Reiterlesmarkt.

Rothenburg o.d.Tbr. was bombed on March 31, 1945 by 16 American aircraft that were unable to fly to their original target due to fog. 39 people were killed and the part of the city to the east of the market square was almost completely destroyed. In the years after the war, the city was rebuilt almost true to the original, so that we can experience this unique, medieval city as it appears to us today.

The city wall in Rothenburg leads around the whole city. The route from the Klingentor to the Spitaltor is completely accessible. On the side facing the valley, it is only provided with a battlement between Stöberleinsturm and Kohlturm along the hospital quarter, the so-called Kappenzipfel.
