Between the Palais Schwarzenberg and the bus stops in Laxenburg, a garden was created around the bust of Emperor Franz Joseph in the style of a cottage garden. This garden is characterized by its wildly romantic, varied green recreation areas that comply with the "Nature in the Garden" guidelines, with regional flowering plants, a fruit garden, old stone and wooden elements, dry stone walls and bee-attracting perennial beds.
"Old and young" is an exciting contrast in Laxenburg with its multitude of historical buildings and modern possibilities on every historic street corner, but in the new Franz Joseph Park it is once again symbolized as a buzzing and blooming cycle of life.
The market town of Laxenburg uses ecological and environmentally friendly methods in the field of weed control and containment; weed control is carried out manually, especially in the gardens and parks. The diversity of native plants and their arrangement in chronological flowering sequence keep the maintenance effort very low. Efforts are even being made to allow wild plants and herbs to establish their habitat in this garden.
