The Martin Luther Church was built from 1857 to 1861 by Christian Heyden. It is a neo-Gothic hall church with west tower. The interior is provided with circumferential galleries. Inside, a chandelier from 1659 hangs. Particularly noteworthy is the (probably) original zinc casting of a baptismal font by the Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen, which was given to the parish in the 19th century by the then Prussian crown prince.

The church was built according to Christian Heyden's plans as a neo-Gothic hall church, was originally a sermon church and was intended for as many people as possible. Although it is slightly smaller in volume than the Catholic St. Pancratius Church, it is the largest church in the city with more than 1,000 seats. It was completed in 1861.

The church was listed in 1984. [1] In addition to the actual building, the list of monuments in Gütersloh also includes the height mark, baptismal angel, bell, altarpiece and murals as well as nativity figures from the church. The Christmas crib (from around 1920) was the Memorial of the Month in Westphalia-Lippe in December 2009.
