The historic border fortifications on the Reschen Pass, the so-called Alpenwall, is a popular destination for those interested in history and looks like a bizarre work of art when hiking. The bunker Etschquelle/Bunker No. 20 and the Plamort anti-tank barrier, which is located in a high moor above the village of Reschen and which has been declared a natural monument, are particularly worth seeing. The bunkers in the Obervinschgau, which lead deep into the earth, are also worth seeing. The monumental defense systems can be viewed as architectural relics from the interwar period on guided hikes.

To protect against an invasion by Hitler, an extensive defensive line of anti-tank obstacles and bunkers was built along the Reschen border at the end of the 1930s. The German policy of southward expansion brought Italy and Germany into direct contact.

In November 1939, the Duce gave the order to begin extensive fortification work on the northern border. From the end of January 1940 there was a first defense system with 66 installations in South Tyrol. In October 1942, construction work was stopped after repeated protests from the German Reich.
