This "Döbrich's Cave" is one of Coburg's little mysteries. According to legend, it's sometimes interpreted as the entrance/exit to a buried secret passage leading to the Veste Coburg fortress. It is indeed a cave, not a cellar, but man-made.

A "sand maker's cave." It was inhabited for a time by a hermit named Döbrich. Freely accessible until the 1970s, it was approximately 70 meters deep according to a newspaper report (I went all the way to the back as a child, which was an estimated 20 meters). There are two entrances: one bricked up since around 1980, the other with a steel gate. It's hardly known to the local population and virtually unknown in local history literature. The only sources are: coburg-magazin-forum.de/t507671f11793361-Hoehle.html and the 1974 newspaper report with pictures.
