The Pernickel Tower is one of the few remaining towers of Osnabrück's former 13th-century city fortifications.
The Pernickel Tower is built in the Gothic style and rises approximately 30 meters high. Its structure comprises four above-ground stories and an underground cellar; all are constructed primarily of sandstone blocks that have withstood the test of time.
It features narrow windows (arrow slits), thick walls for protection against artillery fire, and internal staircases that provide access to different levels within the tower for surveillance or combat purposes.
In the 19th century, it was converted into living quarters.
