The Rotbach isn't actually red at all, but rather a clear, lively stream almost 22 km long all the way to its confluence with the Rhine! Older maps also refer to it as Munne, Münne, Minne, "die Bach," "die Beeck," "die Becke," or "der rothe Bache."
However, it was first called "de roje Beek" as early as 1486. Later, it was also sometimes called "churfürstlicher Möhlenbach" or simply Mühlenbach.

The mouth of the Rotbach in the Rhine lies very hidden in a curve. Down some stairs, you get to the stream bed, from where you can take beautiful photos. But be careful, the stones in the stream bed are sometimes very loose and are not to be entered without getting wet.
