At the outer harbor of Zoutkamp stands a lookout tower with a very unique design: the Kaap Garmt lookout tower, a hexagonal observation point that is slightly wider at the bottom and tapers towards the top. Kaap Garmt, except for the small house at its base, is made entirely of steel. The structure below, which resembles a shelter for boaters, is made of wood.
The lookout is a replica of the wooden sea cape on Engelsmanplaat, a sandbank in the Wadden Sea between Ameland and Schiermonnikoog. It was once a landmark that also served as a navigation beacon for ships and mudflat hikers.
