The portly citizens' tower with its "French" dome served as a prison for delinquent citizens. In 1596 the tower collapsed, burying a small house next door. When it was rebuilt in 1600, it took five weeks to dig before rocky ground was found.
The "snapdragons" and loopholes show that the Bürgerturm was of particular importance as a corner tower in the city's defensive ring. A curiosity is the medieval toilet built into a niche on the top floor. The seat is hewn out of sandstone. The "slide" leading to the outside is clearly visible from the outside.
