The bastion rises on the foundations of the medieval city and bears the name of the first Piedmontese viceroy, the Baron of Saint-Remy. When you stand in front of this impressive classical building, you will immediately notice the harmonious interplay of white and yellow limestone columns, crowned by finely crafted Corinthian capitals. Designed by architects Giuseppe Costa and Fulgenzio Setti, the majestic Umberto I terrace offers breathtaking views over the city and is a witness to an architecture that was formally inaugurated in 1902.

The bastion has undergone many changes over the years: the double staircase and the triumphal arch, once proud symbols of the building, were damaged by bombs from World War II in 1943. But with the same precision and care with which they were once built, these parts have been restored to their former glory. The covered promenade that stretches behind the arch tells its own stories: once a place for celebratory banquets, later an infirmary during the wars and a refuge for those who had lost everything. And in 1948 the first edition of the Sardinia International Fair was held here.

As you climb the stone steps, you feel the cool breeze on your face and smell the scent of the nearby sea. The palm trees sway gently in the wind and make you forget time for a moment.

Once you reach the top, you will have a breathtaking panoramic view. The old town of Cagliari stretches out at your feet, a sea of terracotta-colored roofs and winding streets. The horizon is bordered by the sparkling sea, glittering in the sun. This place is a real insider tip, especially at sunset, when the city is bathed in a warm, golden light. The soft orange tones of the sky are reflected in the water, giving the city an almost magical aura.

From up here you can watch the hustle and bustle of the city. The gentle sound of the sea, the chirping of the birds and the lively babble of voices in the city combine to create a harmonious carpet of sound.

Cagliari is truly a beautiful place. A place where history, culture and nature come together in perfect harmony. A place that you have to experience once.

The Bastion of Saint-Remy is one of the most prestigious monumental complexes in the city of Cagliari. Built on the old defensive curtains of the fortified circuit of the medieval city, it takes its name from the first Piedmont viceroy, the Baron de Saint-Remy.
The covered walkway and the majestic Umberto I Terrace were designed in 1896 by Giuseppe Costa and Fulgenzio Setti. The imposing classical building made of white and yellow limestone columns with Corinthian capitals was inaugurated in 1902. In 1943, the double staircase and the triumphal arch were badly damaged by bombing during World War II; some time later, however, the destroyed parts were reconstructed true to the original.

Over the years, the large areas of the covered promenade have been used several times. First used as a banquet hall, it became an infirmary during the war and later a refuge for displaced persons during World War II. In 1948 the first edition of the Sardinia International Fair was held here."

The Bastione di Saint Remy is one of Cagliari's most iconic landmarks.
