The sculpture in the vineyards takes this principle and places it in a completely new setting—in the idyllic landscape of the Rheingau.

The French physicist Jean Bernard Léon Foucault demonstrated the rotation of the earth in an experiment in Paris in 1851. The pendulum named after him is a long thread pendulum with a large pendulum mass. To observers, the oscillation plane of the pendulum appears to rotate slowly. But this change is due to the rotation of the earth. In order to be able to show the effect to a large audience, Foucault used a 28 kg metal ball on a 67 meter long metal thread in his demonstration in the Panthéon in Paris in 1851.
