The railway bridge belongs to the Haan-Gruiten–Cologne-Deutz railway line (DB section no. 2730, route book route 455). It is a fully electrified main line.

The line was built by the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn (BME) after the takeover of the Düsseldorf-Elberfelder Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft as a branch from their Düsseldorf–Elberfeld railway line.

The BME began construction of its new routes in Haan-Gruiten station. (...) The first section of the route straight south via Ohligs-Wald (later Ohligs and Solingen-Ohligs, today Solingen Hauptbahnhof) to Opladen was opened on September 25, 1867.

The bridge was originally a stone arch viaduct. In the last days of the so-called III. During the Reich, this construction was blown up by the Wehrmacht. The covered pedestrian bridge that runs under the railway now rests on the mighty old pillar foundations. Initially rebuilt in 1949 as a single-track temporary bridge, the route is now double-tracked over the Wupper by two steel truss bridges.
