There are three ways to reach the island of Rügen. The most well-known is the journey by car or train over the Rügendamm and the new Rügen bridge. Then there is a ferry service from Stralsund to Hiddensee and Rügen. Less well known is this ferry connection in the east of Strelasund. Between Stahlbrode (from Slavic Starbrode = old ford) and Glewitz can be translated by car ferry to Rügen. Two ferries leave at exactly the same time in both ports, meet in the middle of the Strelasund and put on the other side at the same time. Between 6 am and 9 pm ferries leave every 15 minutes at peak times.
