It can be seen from afar: the stately, almost 20 meter high tower of the protestant St. John's Church in Ulfen. It was built around 1363 as a defense tower with narrow loopholes to serve as a place of refuge for the villagers in times of need. Its conspicuous half-timbered top comes from a later period. The nave was rebuilt and expanded several times, most recently in 1790. At that time, the church and churchyard were surrounded by a high stone wall. Inside, a cloudy and starry sky awaits visitors to the open church above the worship room. Ulfen is one of the oldest places between the Ringgau and the Richelsdorf Mountains, 775 was the first mention.

The St. Johannes Church in Ulfen was built in the second half of the 14th century.

Like many churches in the region, it initially served as a fortified church. The altar and the ceiling paintings are worth seeing. The tower clock still has to be wound up every day and is a jewel of the church (if you can visit the tower).

The village church of Ulfen – one of the oldest villages in the Ringgau region, first documented around 775 – was built in the mid-14th century and is recognizable from afar thanks to its striking half-timbered tower. The church was originally built as a fortified church, with loopholes in the tower and thick walls, and at that time offered the village's residents protection from raids and similar attacks.

The painted ceiling inside is worth seeing, reminiscent of the peasant Baroque churches found in this region.
