    At the place of a much smaller forerunner, the Hofmannsweiher was created in its current size (16 ha) through construction work around the year 1668. Since the Dreifelder Weiher, which was once much higher dammed, repeatedly caused floods in the village of Dreifelden, a connecting canal was set up between Dreifelder Weiher and Dreifelden in 1744 Hofmannsweiher.

    Through this “flood ditch”, water could flow out of the Dreifelder Weiher when snowmelt or heavy rainfall without having to operate the difficult-to-use drainage devices. The canal was filled in when the Dreifelder Weiher was lowered to its current limits around 1840.

      The Hofmanns Weiher is a bit out of the way, cannot be reached directly by car and is therefore not as heavily frequented as the neighboring Dreifelder Weiher. The pond can be reached either from the parking lot of the "Haus am See" at the Dreifelder Weiher or as part of the 7-Weiher-Weg (a total of 30 kilometers, sometimes very poorly signposted).

        With 16.3 hectares, the Hoffmann pond is one of the smaller ponds in the Westerwald lake district - for comparison: the Dreifeld pond has a size of 123 hectares. The Hoffmannsweiher is a little out of the way, cannot be reached by general traffic and is therefore not very busy.

                                          Only accessible by bike or on foot: fortunately, many waterfowl feel the same way and have settled here. Here, you can still go hunting for waterfowl in peace with suitable optics. I've rarely seen so many swans, but the water seems to be clearly structured for them.
                                          Very interesting. Hopefully, dog owners remain cooperative and keep their pets on a leash for the sake of the wildlife.
