About 1,600 Jewish cemeteries still exist in Hungary. Documentation on this is modest so far.
More than 700 Jews lived in Mohács in 1941, about 4 percent of the population. After the German occupation of Hungary in March 1944, the Hungarian administration set up two ghettos in May 1944, into which Jews from the city and the surrounding area were forced. At the beginning of July, the ghetto inmates were deported to Pécs and from there to the Auschwitz concentration camp.
