The Cotta Oak is a famous tree at the entrance to the Werdau Forest and commemorates Heinrich Cotta (1763-1844), co-founder of the local forest.
It is an entrance to the forests around Greiz and Werdau nature reserve. This is one of the largest closed forest areas in western Saxony and eastern Thuringia.
There is also a connection to public transport here (bus stop Leubnitz Cotta-Eiche, Werdau) or on the other side of the street there is a car park from which you can reach the Waldperle restaurant with beer garden and children's playground (not public) past the highlight.

The Cotta Eiche is a fantastic starting point for tours in the Werdau Forest. There is a fairly large parking lot for hikers. The Waldperle restaurant is not far from there.
