Epplesee
In 1919, Karl Epple from Bad Cannstatt founded a haulage business. In 1935, he signed a contract with the municipality of Uhingen to mine gravel for concrete production in the "Unterer Wasen" area. He acquired a building site to build an office building and house the machinery. He agreed with the municipality to employ mainly workers from Uhingen in his company. He also donated a generous amount of money every year to be distributed to the needy. The company was a pioneer in building materials with products such as ready-mixed concrete, dry mortar, sand, gravel and crushed stone. The exploited pits south of the Fils were largely refilled. In 1965, the Epple company was released from the contract. The gravel pond in front of the former sorting, washing and loading facility, the so-called "Epplesee", has been preserved to this day and is maintained by the Uhingen fishing club.
