Decent surface, wouldn’t do it on super skinny tyres but fine on 32c. Large aggregate used in some places which can be a little tricky to ride on but it’s beautiful and well worth it. Lots of interesting signs about the history and a redcoat sculpture to boot!

We did the section from Grantown north to the moor summit and back a couple of weeks ago on gravel bikes (38c). We found it unpleasantly rough going in places, especially where a headwind stopped us from getting enough speed up to float over sections of the old railway ballast. It was a lovely route, but we decided to wait to do the full run to Forres until we were on fatter tyres and suspension.
