Scheibenhard and his neighboring municipality Scheibenhardt on the other side of the Lauter were until 1815 a village. The Congress of Vienna, which was supposed to restore princely rule in Europe and undo the French Revolution, finally ensured that from then on a border along the watercourse separated the two neighbors.

The town of Scheibenhardt is in Rhineland-Palatinate on the border with France. The river Lauter forms the national border here. South of the Lauter lies the town of Scheinhard in France. Both places merge seamlessly into one another. Disc hardt and disc hard were originally a community until 1815. In 1815, Prussia, Austria and Russia defined the Lauter as the border between Germany and France in the Second Peace of Paris.

There is probably no other village in Germany where Germans and French are as close as they are here. No wonder, because both of the Scheibendhardts originally formed a community until 1815, when the Second Peace of Paris declared the Lauter to be the border between Germany and France.

Those who take the time here will be rewarded. The Lauter River forms the border. On the German side, a small path leads along it to a small nature reserve. A fish ladder was built there to help the many fish reach their spawning grounds. Chickens and a rooster frolic right on the border. The chickens also connect us, sometimes back and forth – borders are so useless here... which is a good thing! The colors of the eggs??? Black, red, gold, or blue, red and white? Take your time and take a look. It's worth it. The bakery-café on the German side is now open again. A pastry chef from Alsace spoils you with the finest éclairs (including chocolate and vanilla cream) and the best cakes. If you drive past, it's your own fault...

It's a shame that the lake at the campsite is not freely accessible. So swimming is difficult. A large part of the route is on country roads. The road is in poor condition in places.
