This academic baroque-style church was completed in 1697. In 1724 the bell tower was added, completing the complex, which stands out for being one of the few in the world that includes representations of the three archangels, including Saint Michael, patron saint of Nerja .

The church is white and has its origins in the year 1505, but has been renovated a number of times since then. In 1697 the church got the appearance as it is today and that was further expanded between the years 1776-1792. In 1724, a quadrangular bell tower was added to the church and later rebuilt.
