The town hall was designed by architect Arne Jacobsen and was built in 1938-1941. It is one of the examples of modern Danish architecture of the early 20th century with the 60-meter-high bell tower.

Although the town hall in Aarhus is already celebrating its 75th anniversary, it is still a modern, functionalist building. The building's cladding is made of Norwegian marble, but otherwise the town hall is an elegant expression of Danish design and architecture.

The town hall in Aarhus (Aarhus Rådhus) was built according to the plans of the Danish architects Arne Jacobsen and Erik Møller. The opening was on June 2, 1941. The municipality of Aarhus announced an architecture competition in 1936, which Jacobsen and Møller won. The original plans initially did not include a tower, this only found its way into the plans after protests from the population. For its time, the building was considered modern and progressive. It was built almost entirely from concrete and has a glass-roofed atrium inside. The exterior cladding is made of Norwegian marble. In 1994 it was placed under monument protection.
