A place of Catholic worship and today the seat of the European Ecumenical Center for Peace, the Shrine of Our Lady of Europe was built here with the support of the Archbishop of Milan Giovanni Montini (later Pope Paul VI) because this place was considered the hydrographic center of 'Europe, a little in the middle between the Rhine, the Danube and the Po. It was consecrated on 14 September 1958.
