This splendid nineteenth-century sanctuary can be reached with an easy walk from San Piero in Bagno. The short path is all uphill but the place is worth the effort. Right next to the sanctuary there is a picnic area ideal for a lunch completely immersed in the peace of the woods.

The Sanctuary, located on the Corzano hill (678 asl) overlooking the upper Savio valley, was built in the mid-nineteenth century to preserve and venerate an image of the "Madonna and Child", depicted in a fifteenth-century fresco inside a small church that stood among the ruins of the abandoned castle. In 1835 the Madonna of Corzano, invoked by the people, stopped the strong earthquakes, bringing devotion back to her: then work was undertaken that changed the appearance of the small church and the barren hill.
... since the mid-nineteenth century, the person who physically provided for and looked after the sanctuary was always a "hermit", that is, a lay person who lived there, worked and collected alms: brother Antonio from the mid-nineteenth century; Pellegrino Scotti di Meldola from 1895 to 1916; Ferdinando Bertozzi of S. Piero until 1932; Roberto Bertoni of Meldola from 1941 until the 1950s. The last hermit was Quirino Maggio da Manduria (1921-1994) who lived in Corzano from 1969 to 1988: with his constant stubborn commitment he managed to speed up the bureaucracy and push the Superintendency to resume the restoration work on the sanctuary (1975), again unsafe.
