The first run of the cable car took place on April 5, 1958, starting from the valley station in Albino, a hamlet of Bondo Petello, to the head station, in the locality of Poggio Ama, between Selvino and Aviatico.
At the time it was a work of high engineering value, designed in 1954 by Vittorio Zignoli of the Turin Polytechnic.
It rested on four intermediate pylons, had a travel speed of 7 meters per second and was able to overcome a difference in height of 536 meters in just seven minutes.
