The Leonhard-Müller Park invites you to stroll and linger, it is the oldest public green space in the city. The remodeling of the moats at Perfort (Middle High German for keep) came from the architect, master land, road and hydraulic engineer Leonhard Müller, who worked in Hersfeld from 1827 to 1851. The well-preserved city wall limits the park in the direction of the city center. In the 16th century, a half-timbered storey was added to the stump of the former city wall tower of Perfort. Today you can book the former watchtower as an exclusive hotel apartment. The two ponds in the city park are a remnant of the former city moat.
