In this museum, you can use pictures and documents to gain an insight into the history of the Moravian Brethren, which is directly linked to the local history. The Old Moravian Rooms, with Biedermeier furniture, handmade wallpaper and precious handicrafts, allow you to experience original Moravian living culture. You can look at pictures by some well-known artists; for example by Anton Graff (1736–1813), Gustav Grunewald (1805–1878), Adolf Lier (1826–1886) and by the Lusatian painter Max Langer (1897–1985).

Excellent inlay work on the furniture and stoves of the 19th century contribute to the flair of the period and reveal a rounded solidity. Particularly interesting are pictures made of human hair, which were made on request by Herrnhut sisters in the Biedermeier period. You will also find rare lacquer trays from the Herrnhut manufactory H.I. Gregor (1820–1850) with detailed views of the town.

Sun blinds of fascinating luminosity and a so-called astronomical clock (1785), the case of which is a work by David Roentgen, are part of the wonderful sights. Children's toys such as puzzle games, dolls, doll dishes and furniture, picture books and typical Herrnhut games make not only children's hearts beat faster. A travel harmonium and a rare, still functional piano harmonium from 1880 delight many visitors. The regional environment is represented by a separate exhibition section. The typical furnishings give an insight into the Upper Lusatian half-timbered houses. In 1996, the permanent exhibition was expanded for our visitors. Today you can also see a collection of municipal means of transport such as a Roaper (wheelbarrow), sledges and a so-called "diesel ant" (step-steering Multicar M21), in which a diesel engine with evaporative cooling is installed. A silversmith's workshop is presented in two adjacent rooms. A collection of tools, equipment and aids presents the most important, typical crafts of the past of our town.
