          In some ways, this door retains a similar function to that of the Nasrid period. It is the main access door to the Alhambra medina, enclosing the residential and artisanal areas serving the court within the common walls of the fortress.

          Because it is an interior door, access is direct, unlike the exterior doors, which required more protection and were built in an arch. However, the interior retains the necessary space and benches for the guard who controlled the passage.

                One of at least 6 gates in the city, all of which ultimately lead to the Alhambra in some way. The beautiful "wine" gate, built around 1310, was called Bib al-Jamra in Arabic and describes "the rivers of wine that would flow in paradise. The Sultans of Granada did not want to wait for that, the Moors drank like Moors and built themselves palaces and gardens, well, like Sultans. The gates lead us to their paradise on earth, but heaven remains for the fools."
