On October 16, 1981, a Saab 105 YH-08 military aircraft crashed here during a test flight. The pilot, then 25-year-old Lt. Roman Kaltenegger died in the process.
A memorial cross now commemorates the crash. The cross was placed and blessed at the place where Lieutenant Roman Kaltenegger crashed, in the forest of the "Garstner-Eck". The army paid tribute to the then 25-year-old pilot who died in the tragic event with a wreath-laying ceremony. The cross was erected by the home club Windischgarsten to commemorate the crash of the Jabos Saab 105.
