The Füchtelner Mühle is a cultural monument in Olfen that is known far beyond the region. Built between 1301 and 1306, it was almost always used as an oil, grain or sawmill. In 1992, a hydroelectric power plant was built to generate electricity in one of the parts of the building, which can still generate electricity for over 100 households today. A flood ensures that fish and other creatures in the river can move up and down the water. A station on the SteverLandRoute behind the mill provides information about this great project: Here there is a beautiful, shady picnic area with a view of the surrounding water and a water feature - hands-on station for children that allows children to experience the current in the river. The SteverLandRoute is the family cycle path in Münsterland: Here, display boards for adults and information boards especially for children (!) provide information about the great project. There are a total of 14 participation stations along the route. If you like, you can travel from station to station with the children's discovery map, coin print.

"Prince-Bishop Otto III, Count of Rietberg (1301-1306), had the Füchtelner mill built as a state mill. It belonged to the Haus Füchteln moated castle, which was the ancestral home of the Knights of Kukelshem.

With the development of the Ruhr area in the 19th century, the watermill was also used as a sawmill.

As part of the expansion of the Stever, the Gelsenkirchen waterworks bought the old mill storage right to the Füchtelner mill, including the existing facilities. In 1992, the two Gelsenwasser mill buildings were sold to the private investor Ernst Herbst. A residential building and a hydroelectric power station were built in the old buildings.
