On the occasion of the 1972 Olympic Games in Kiel, the then Stadtsparkasse (now Förde Sparkasse) commissioned the artists Hermann Göpfert and Johannes Peter Hölzinger to create a sculpture that will be placed on the small green area in front of the main branch. The object consists of a large number of different sized elements made of shiny stainless steel that reflect the incoming light in all directions through the different angles. This means that the light itself is also part of the work of art. The core of the work is the transfer of the mathematical form of a spiral into space. The individual elements are arranged in such a way that they recreate three spiral-shaped lines, each of which also increases in height. The central spiral thus spirals up to a height of around 8 meters. Passers-by could walk from the outside to the inside and, after two circuits from the start, reach their destination in the center of the spiral, where they are surrounded by high and glittering walls made of stainless steel slats. When walking around and especially when entering the figure, the spatial impression changes constantly until a loss of external perception occurs in the center of the spiral.
