The Rheinelbe sculpture forest was designed by Hermann Prigann and complements his sculptures on the dump, such as the famous Staircase to Heaven. The Sculpture Forest lives up to its name. You hike through dense forest and repeatedly discover one of Hermann Prigann's sculptures. A beautiful place for discoveries.

The former rubble dump and the adjacent forest in Ückendorf (Leithestr./access Virchowstr.) are now the site of various sculptures, some of which include the remains of buildings and foundation walls. Following the concept designed in 1996 by the Recklinghausen artist Herman Prigann, an exciting triad of people, nature and technology has been created. The sculpture forest is also intended to encourage people to think about how to deal with the ever-increasing number of remaining areas.

The highlight of the sculpture forest is, in the truest sense of the word, the ascent to the 85-meter-high spiral mountain in the south, the so-called "Stairway to Heaven". Here the concrete relics of a Dortmund mine rise into the sky in Aztec style. ..."
