The waterfall of Grunas is one of the most beautiful natural treasures in the valley of Theth. An absolute must when in Albania. And by the way, you can fill up your water supplies during a hike.

The waterfall Ujëvara e Grunasit has a drop of about 30 meters. It has been a natural monument since 2002 and is only fed by the karst spring directly above. Good drinking water.

A stroll through the village and its lush green fields reveals the full extent of Theth. Visit the iconic church and immerse yourself in the history of the "Kanun" at the lock tower. The "Kulla" offered protection to those affected by the blood feud and is the place to learn more about the former Highland Law. It also marks the starting point for the trail to Nderlysaj. Following the water channels, the trail climbs to the Grunas Waterfall and then descends again to a cliff above the river and the 50m deep Grunas Gorge. A well-worn bridle path runs along the river downstream to Nderlysaj. Once there, the Kaprea River and its stone pools invite you to swim in the hot midday sun.

We found the walk from Theth to the waterfall beautiful. It was relaxing and a lovely start to the hike. We got a little lost and ended up at the bottom of the waterfall, like many others. With Komoot, we quickly found our way back up.

The walk itself isn't strenuous – only the climb to the waterfall will make you break a sweat 😅. Just to be on the safe side, bring at least one jacket, or several (layering).

The walk to the waterfall can be extended to a circular walk including Blue Eye and Grunas Canyon. From the center of Theth starting 6-7 hours approximately for the entire tour. Afterwards we recommend a stop at Villa Gjecaj near Aida and your family.
