Braunwald GL at 1256 m above sea level. M
The 12.-15. The settlement of Bergeten (approx. 1600 m), inhabited in summer, bears witness to sheep, goat and cattle husbandry as well as hunting. Until 1395, taxes to the monastery Säckingen (Black Forest) are documented. B. originally belonged to Tagwen Niederlinthal. In 1690 and 1718 the part south of the Brummbach was allocated to Linthal, the main part to Rüti, the rest to Diesbach and Betschwanden. From 1725 B. was inhabited by individual families all year round. The Fuhrlihaus, built in 1780, has been under homeland protection since 1973. The school, established in 1841, received its own building in 1857. Whey cures were first offered in 1844. The Niederschlacht tavern, built in 1856, has developed into a renowned first-class hotel. In 1875, the forest corporation B., which was founded in the same year, acquired forest rights from Tagwens Rüti. It formed the original cell of the local, civic and constituency B created in 1939. The lung sanatorium was built in 1896-97 (since 1985 Höhenklinik B.). The material cable car Rüti-B built in 1902. This was followed in 1907 by the opening of the Linthal (Stachelberg)-B funicular. (BrB) and the Hotels Alpenblick, Grand Hotel (Bellevue) and Alpina. The first winter season began at the end of 1928 (winter operation of the BrB, opening of the ice field). Annual music weeks have been held in July since 1936. 1941 became the deacon. Sisterhood B. founded, which ran the Bergfrieden convalescent home and the Flueblüemli special school until 1999.
