The "Haasenburg" with its age of about 400 years is the oldest, inhabited Low German stand house on the island of Rügen. The oldest settlement on the island of Ummanz is Freesenort. The then "Vreesenort" was first documented in 1319, and the first farms were recorded here in the 16th and 17th centuries. Four listed buildings still stand on this tranquil piece of land today. The oldest of these is the "Haasenburg," a Low German hall house with a sugarloaf roof, presumably dating back to the 17th century. It received its name "Haasenburg" because a family named Haase lived here for a long time.
