"The Emmerickhaus in Flamschen is the birthplace of our parish patron Blessed Anna Katharina Emmerick. It was a thatched double hayloft in a two-poster construction. There is no exact construction date, but it was first mentioned in a register of residents around 1750. The small extension on the north side/gable end added the father in 1795 as a "sewing room" for A. K. Emmerick after her apprenticeship in the city of Coesfeld.
Until the partial conversion towards the end of the 19th century, it was a so-called smokehouse. In order to keep the heat in the house, there was no chimney or smoke outlet. Until 1932 the agricultural area of the Kotten was farmed by descendants of Anna Katharina's siblings.
The Anna-Katharina-Emmerick-Verein e. V. Coesfeld began a restoration to restore the building to its original condition. In the area of the other half on the south side, a new house was built for a caretaker family, who were also to take over the care of the memorial. Shortly before the completion of the measures, the Emmerick House burned down in 1969 and renewed restoration began. In 1976 the building burned again and this time hardly any of the original substance remained. Nevertheless, the decision was made to build a new building that was true to the original. The memorial was inaugurated in 1980 and furnished with donated old pieces of equipment. However, the crib exhibited in the "sewing room" is original, which Anna Katharina Emmerick made herself and kept in St. Jakobi."
