Herrenbach reservoir
At the beginning of the 1970s, the Herrenbach reservoir was created as a flood retention basin. The 22 m high dam holds back a total of approx. 2 million m³ of water in the Herrenbachtal.
The lake has a water depth of up to 18 meters and an area of approx. 10 hectares. It consists of a main and an antechamber; both are separated by a small accessible fore-dam. The Fils Water Association is the builder and operator of the storage and flood retention basin. Most of the lake is in the Adelberg district, while the smaller part is in the Schorndorf-Oberberken district.
Due to the purpose of the reservoir, recreational use of the water surface is not intended, with the exception of fishing waters. However, an attractive local recreation area has been created that meets the population's need for rest and relaxation.
A network of well-kept hiking trails, rest areas, seating areas and benches provide the necessary tourist requirements. There are parking spaces for cars at the entrance to the Herrenbach valley (after the turnoff from the L 1147 state road) and at the parking lot in front of the Adelberg monastery.
