The Kocher rises at the foot of the Swabian Alb, where the Black and White Kochers converge near Unterkochern.

At this point, after 168 km of travel, the Kocher flows into the Neckar in Kochendorf, one of the largest tributaries of the Neckar.

It is believed that a Roman port facility once stood at this location.

Two km downstream lies the Jagstfeld district, with the confluence of the Jagst, its "twin river."

The 330 km long Kocher-Jagst cycle path is very popular.
