              On July 4, 1943 at 1:35 am. Lt Johannes Hager (6./NJG 1) scored a second victory that night, bringing his score to six. The Halifax fell northeast of Malmédy, in what was then territory of the Reich, as the cantons of Eupen and Malmédy had been returned to Germany. This concerns the DT784 'ZA-M' of 10 Squadron, one of the three losses of the squadron that night. Two airmen were killed: the 31-year-old Australian pilot, F/Sgt Arthur Morley, and the tail gunner, Sgt Frank Sadler (29 years old). They were later buried in Hotton. Their comrades, F/Sgt R. Watson, navigator; Sgt R. West, bomb aimer, and Sgt T. Barlow, dorsal turret gunner, were captured and taken to Stalag 357 Kopernikus, while a fifth survivor, radio operator Sgt C.                   During their forays through the High Fens, many visitors stop at the Vergade Aviation Memorial in Sourbrodt. A propeller and a memorial stone here, at the edge of the municipal forest, commemorate the crash of a Halifax aircraft in early July 1943.
