    High Cup Nick is the best example of a glaciated u-shaped valley in Northern England. Situated high on the western flanks of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the view from this spot is utterly breathtaking. Here, you can see the grey-blue dolerite crags which also form High Force and Cauldron Snout.

        This is one of the strangest walks I have done. Rolling moors then, in the middle of nowhere this epic hole appeared.

          Instead of walking up and down the same route, go round the west side. Easy to follow path that leads back to Dutton. 15.5 kilometres in all with outstanding views.

                    Just walk. If it's too windy (as we found it today), get to a nice spot, take it in, turn around (we had the kids with us, assessed the risk over and over so we just turned back)...

                        High Cup Nick is just a super good example of a glaciated valley, more than likely the best example in the UK. The walk up from Dufton to this point is super nice. I would also suggest going over Backstone Edge and down the old mining road towards Dufton Pike. It makes for a great hike, with great views most of the way. High Cup Nick, however, is the best vantage point on the route and, in my opinion, the best view point in the North Pennines.

                          High Cup Nick is the ideal spot to get to learn scrambling skills. You will need to go up or down a boulder field if you choose to ascent or descent the Gill. The area is large and there are no deep exposure on your side. The boulders are small, so there won't be any need to pull yourself up or take a leap of faith down.
