Before the establishment of the independent parish of Eizer in 1873 with its own pastor who was tasked with building a new church, masses were already celebrated in Our Lady of Need in Hoog-Eizer (Duisburg) under the ministry of the St. Catherine's parish of Duisburg. Laag-Eizer did have its own chapel, the Cruysboom Chapel, but the chapel in Duisburg was allowed to celebrate masses, first under the patronage of Tervuren, later that of Duisburg.

The current church was consecrated on June 23, 1893, but the upper sections of the tower were not completed until 1933. Two bells were placed (Saint Roch and Saint Mary Magdalene). The current church volume was only registered in the cadastral register in 1944, together with the expansion of the cemetery. Until then, only the temporary church was registered against the plot boundary.
