Varese in northern Italy in the Lombardy region
The city of Varese is located in northern Italy in the Lombardy region. Immediately after crossing the border from Switzerland, Varese is located on the edge of the Alps and in the middle of several northern Italian lakes: Lake Maggiore, Lake Como, Lake Lugano and the smaller Lake Varese. Very few visitors to Italy have Varese on their radar as a place worth seeing. That's a good thing, because mass tourism has no chance here, although Varese is worth a visit with its many gardens, palazzi, arcades, villas and museums. Above Varese is also the UNESCO World Heritage Site Sacro Monte di Varese with several chapels from the seventeenth century.

Old town of Varese.
What would a city visit be without a stroll through one of Italy's beautiful old towns? A good coffee or espresso, lunch or ice cream in a relaxed atmosphere are simply part of it. In Varese this is easily possible; the beautiful city is not too touristy.
