The castle was 30 by 30m and was built in the 14th century. In 1407 the palace/castle was sold to Margrete I.
Later it passed to the Bishopric of Ribe, in 1536 it fell back to the crown and became
Abandoned in 1854 and slated for demolition. When a bridge over the moat, which was necessary for the demolition, collapsed, the demolition was stopped and a picturesque ruin was left behind. Luckily!
