Anna Gertrud Mommerz
Anna Getrud Mommerz lost her husband early on. In order to survive, she helped workers from Verlautenheide and Eilendorf who worked in Stolberg carry their belongings. In the Rhenish language, Anna Gertrud was a "Mittchen", a contemptible, miserable woman without a husband. The money was just enough for her to survive. She often went with her friend Maria Kaußen, who also did this work, today one would say "service". performed. On April 30, 1909, Anna G. Mommerz went alone because her friend did not show up at the agreed meeting point. Later it turned out that Maria Kaussen had seen a man who seemed strange to her near the later murder site. It could even be that Maria had disturbed this man in his sex crime. Since she herself had only been sexually molested by a man in the winter, around Christmas time, Maria now took a long detour around this forest area. Apparently Anna Gertrud Mommerz knew nothing about these events. So she probably ran into the sex offender's arms. She died on April 30, 1909 in the Atscher forest near the dry bush clearing. This murder was never solved. An older wooden murder victim cross was renewed by the friends of the Eilendorf homeland in memory of Anna Gertrud Mommerz and is clearly visible next to the heavily used footpath. A small footbridge leads over the lateral ditch. Opposite, a park bench offers walkers the opportunity to take a break and a short souvenir. There is information about this act in the Eilendorfer Heimatblatt from 1995.
