Every year Lebbeke organizes a plantation of a native forest. During this planting, the parents of the children born in the previous year have the opportunity to plant a birth tree. The municipality of Lebbeke already has 4 birth forests:
In Wieze, the birth forest is located near the Laerestraat, a neighborhood road that connects the Sasbaan with the Dender

Lebbeke's native forests are maintained as a natural entity and not as a park. This means that a walking path has been mowed through the forest, but that not every tree can be reached separately. The native forests of Lebbeke, Heizijde and Wieze are open to the public, so you can also go for a picnic, walk, play,… .

Forestry from tree species that are already present on the plots or will thrive here was chosen as planting material. These plants bear the 'Plant from Hier' label. Plants from Hier are descendants of trees and shrubs that spontaneously established themselves in our areas after the last ice age. In short, Plants from Hier are trees and shrubs that have been in our areas for a long time and are therefore very well adapted to the soil and living conditions in our regions. Through research we know that only 5% of our greenery is really Plant van Hier. This is due to the cheap import of plant material from countries such as Italy and Poland. The Plant van Hier label was created to give our Plants from Hier every opportunity to reconquer their natural habitat.
