"East of Crumstadt there is a large raw material deposit of sand and gravel, which lies in a landscape used intensively by agriculture. The village of Crumstadt, with the adjacent arable land to the east, including the mining areas up to the Crumstadt Forest, is surrounded by a meandering Altneckar loop.

With the extraction of the raw material deposits, the region should be supplied with sand and gravel and an optimal, environmentally friendly use of the existing deposits should be achieved. Mining is carried out as wet mining with groundwater cut.

The quarrying area covers a total area of approx. 109 ha, which includes compensation, greening and recreation areas.

The aim of recultivation is a mixed subsequent use as an open water area with a riparian zone for nature conservation. The bank zones are developed with a careful development for a quiet recreational use. A public natural swimming pool is to be built in the south-western area.

The aim of the planning is to make the planned dismantling as compatible with the landscape as possible. For this purpose, the remotely located operating system and the mining area are being recultivated in sections with structures typical of the landscape."
