You would actually pass by here without knowing that you are walking along a 1,500-year-old defensive wall. The Osterwall is the eastern part of the Danewerkes. In the Viking Age, Danes, Friesians, Saxons and Slavs met here in the border region between Scandinavia and Central Europe. The Danes began to expand the Danewerk as a southern border fortification. The Osterwall runs over a length of 3.5 kilometers via Kochendorf to the Windebyer Noor.

The Osterwall at Windebyer Noor:
50 m west of here you can see a small piece of wall in the woods to the right of the path; further on to Kochendorf it looks like a small bend. It stretches a total of 4 km from Windebyer Noor to the swampy lowlands of the Osterbek.
In individual sections it has been preserved west of Kochendorf up to a height of 4 m.
